About Alignment Yoga

What is Alignment Yoga?

Our bodies feel and perform better when they're in balance.  Alignment yoga focuses on moving, breathing, and connecting to the body in ways that align the body's structures (joints, bones, muscles, etc).  This style of movement helps the body gain strength, improve awareness, and relieve pain caused by joint misalignment.

This 60 minute class is scalable in difficulty - so whether you have plenty of experience or this is your very first class, you're a performance athlete or you have injuries or illness - this class will meet you as you are in your body.  Each class is structured around a theme of movement.  Class begins with a brief meditation, a short anatomy lesson, and then movement.

About Darlene Marshall

Hi!  I'm Darlene, a native of Rensselaer County who has studied movement in far flung places and been in the fitness and wellness space for 15 years.  I specialize in those people who feel that fitness isn't "for them" or who struggle with chronic illness and/or catastrophic injuries and what it means to build a wellbeing lifestyle.  I've been teaching Alignment Yoga since completing my training in 2018 and a regular class at Central Rock Gym Troy since it opened last year.

When I'm not teaching yoga, I'm an applied wellbeing scientist.  I provide corporate wellbeing consulting and education, teach undergraduate Positive Psychology, write fitness industry educational curriculum, and am a movement and wellness coach to 1-on-1 clients.  My education includes a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from UPenn, 200hr Yoga Teacher Training from Luna Alignment in Koh Phangan Thailand, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Wellness Coach, Nutrition Coach, Sleep Coach, and various movement modalities such as functional strength and kettlebells.  I host the award winning podcast Better Than Fine (and it's sister substack by the same name).
